The Digital Engagement and Research Services department at the UTM Library can provide digital scholarship support in the following ways:

provide instructional support to faculty and instructors on the use of digital scholarship in curricula
offer research consultations to students, faculty, staff, and researchers on the use of digital methods, theories, and tools to support research projects and coursework
develop and maintain digital scholarship projects and resources for the UTM Library
host digital scholarship software that supports curricula and research, as well as provide technical support to users

Research

Individual and tailored research consultations are available to students, faculty, staff, and researchers on a variety of digital scholarship topics. We can introduce you to methods, theories, and tools used for digital scholarship research and provide expertise on project planning.

Topics can include but are not limited to:

designing digital exhibits
developing custom databases and research repositories
identifying, assessing, and selecting appropriate digital scholarship software
developing project-specific metadata schemas and controlled vocabularies
cleaning and transforming metadata and datasets
data modeling and analytics for digital scholarship projects
creating visualizations for digital scholarship projects
using scripting languages and software to automate parts of the research process
identifying digital tools for qualitative coding and annotation
using library-supported digital scholarship software

Consultations can take place at any point in the research process from initial planning to research output creation.

Teaching

Is there a digital pedagogy you plan to practice in your teaching? Are you looking to develop a digital project-based assignment? Need advice on how to teach a digital method or tool in your course? We can introduce you to methods, theories, tools, and provide expertise in digital pedagogy and course planning. We can also provide direct technical support on incorporating library-supported software into instruction and coursework. In addition to consultations, we can deliver tailored workshops and instructional sessions on digital scholarship tools and methods to your class.

Software Support

The UTM Library currently supports the following digital scholarship software that can be used for research and curricula:

Omeka S

Omeka S is a user-friendly web application that allows users to create custom digital exhibits. Omeka S has a range of features and is capable of building websites; developing timelines and story maps; creating annotations for images and text; and hosting digital assets like podcasts, images, and even 3D files! Omeka S is best for those interested in creating research projects or assignments that have multiple components or need customization.

Quartex

Quartex is a digital asset management platform that can be used to create research websites; host digital assets like images, videos, and documents; and build simple slide-based digital exhibits. Quartex is best for research projects or assignments that need a simple solution with less customization.
