Hidden in plain sight: a message from the Spider King

U of T librarians and researchers uncover rare 15th-century French royal letter

A humble fragment of parchment from the Massey College library collections came to vivid life after being scanned by a MISHA (Multispectral Imaging System for Historical Artifacts) at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library as part of the Andrews Project for Book Science. The MISHA helped illuminate handwriting details and folds that allowed a U of T scholar to identify the scrap as part of a 15th century letter from the court of Louis XI.
