This page explains what to expect during a power outage, fire alarm, or severe weather event at U of T Scarborough Library.

Power outages

The library will remain open during a power outage, including up to 30 minutes after sunset. After that time, the library will close.

If the library is close to capacity, the front doors may be locked to limit entry.

We will close if there is a health or safety concern.

The elevator is not available during a power outage.

Some of our services and spaces may not be available. If you are in a poorly lit area, move to a space with natural or emergency lighting.

Fire alarm

The library will be evacuated when a fire alarm sounds in the Academic Resource Centre (ARC).

Collect your belongings and exit through the front doors. Continue out of the ARC building unless staff direct you otherwise.

The library will remain closed until an all-clear message is given by an authorized person, such as Campus Safety or the fire department.

The library will usually remain open when classes are cancelled. Some services may be reduced.

If the U of T Scarborough campus is closed, the library will also close.
