Info Desk

Welcome to the first stop on our self-guided tour (though you can proceed through the tour in any order you like!)

The Information and Reference Desk (Info Desk) is located at the front of the library and is staffed during regular hours of operation.

Library staff at the desk can help you with:

Navigating the our wide variety of services, and understanding your library loans and account
Searching the catalogue, databases, and research guides for the most useful information
Getting started on researching a topic or assignment, choosing resources or developing a search strategy

Printing

We have both black & white and colour printers in the library, managed by the campus IITS team.

Student printing is done via TCard+

TCard+ is a system that allows students to load funds (TBucks) onto their online account using their TCard. You can use your TBucks for printing and photocopying in the computer labs and the library in addition to food purchases and other services on campus. To find out more information about TCard+, please visit http://uoft.me/tcardplus.

Mobile Print:

Students with a valid UTORid and TBucks on their account can login via http://uoft.me/mobileprint and upload their files directly from their mobile device or laptop. If you experience issues or have questions, please contact the Student Help Desk (AC200).

Library Lounge

Welcome to our Library Lounge! This area of comfortable seating is great for quiet reading and features some amazing murals by Scarborough artist “Elicser” Elliott.

Course Reserves

Instructors can make course readings available online through Quercus, the University's online learning management system, or as physical items that can be borrowed from this section of the UTSC Library.

Stacks

Welcome to the UTSC Stacks (library terminology for “shelves”).

This is our main collection of browsable materials that you can wander through on your own in the hopes of discovering interesting books on a topic. This area holds all the UTSC Library materials labelled “First Floor” in the LibrarySearch database, arranged by subject area. Behind you is our collection of cookbooks, our collection of print atlases, and a selection of other large format books that are too big for the regular shelves. When you find items in LibrarySearch with the location “Storage” those are on-campus items that library staff will retrieve for you from our storage area. To request that staff retrieve items from storage please use the same LibrarySearch process as you use for requesting delivery of items from libraries on the other two U of T campuses.

One Button Studio

The One Button Studio (OBS) is a simplified video recording setup designed to make video creation easy and accessible for everyone. It's perfect for recording presentations, lectures, interviews, or any content requiring a professional look.

To use the space, you must complete the "Makerspace Orientation" video ahead of your booking. Visit the UTSC Library Makerspace Get Started page for access to the video.

Small study rooms

The library has eight small study rooms, which can be booked via our booking page (select 'UTSC Library' from drop-down menu).

Maximum 3 students per room
Talking allowed (e.g. participating in virtual tutorials, etc.)
Each booking is 30 minutes (maximum four bookings per day)

Liaison librarians

The rooms down this back hall are all offices for some of our librarians and an entrance to our staff-only area.

At UTSC we have a team of liaison librarians who are assigned to support different programs on campus, though any of the library’s staff will be happy to help you! Some of our librarians have offices here in the library but some have offices in other buildings, often close to the departments they serve as liaison librarians.

Visit our website to find a list of our liaison librarians and their primary areas of responsibility and ways to contact them and book an appointment to come and see them.

Info Commons

Here in the Info Commons we have a number of Windows desktop computers that you can log into with you UTORid.

Of course, in the library you can also connect your personal devices to the U of T Wi-Fi network.

Archives and Special Collections

The UTSC Library, Archives and Special Collections’ mandate is to acquire, preserve, arrange, describe and provide access to rare and unique materials that support teaching and research at the University of Toronto Scarborough, materials documenting the history of the University of Toronto Scarborough campus, and material documenting the Scarborough community.

Makerspace

Welcome to the Makerspace!

Podcast Room

The Podcast Room features an audio mixer, microphones and headphones to help you create your own podcast, voice-over project, or even live-streaming event. To use Podcast Room you must first complete the "Makerspace Orientation" interactive video ahead of your booking.

Medium study rooms

In addition to the smaller study rooms on the other side of the library we also have a number of slightly larger study rooms here which can be booked via the same booking page (select 'UTSC Library' from drop-down menu).

Second floor

The second floor of the library is filled with individual study desks for quiet study.

Additionally, at the back of the second floor is our Silent Study Room where we strongly encourage maintaining a silent environment for students who prefer a very quiet space for their studies.

Popular collection

The UTSC Library holds a wide variety of unique collections, including audiobooks, audiovisual resources and streaming video collections.

Of particular note here at the front of the library is our collection of popular novels and magazines and our selection of DVD and Blu-ray movies, video games, and boardgames!
