The Office of the Chief Librarian at the U of T Scarborough Library provides strategic leadership for the library’s vision, priorities, and operations.

We support services, collections, and spaces that meet the needs of the Scarborough campus, and work with partners across the University of Toronto Libraries system and the broader community. Our work supports open access, inclusive practices, and responsible stewardship of resources.

Our goal is to ensure the library remains a central and accessible space for learning, research, and collaboration at U of T Scarborough.

Message from the Chief Librarian

Welcome to the U of T Scarborough Library, a leader in academic library service and program development. We have piloted a self-serve, fully automated course reserve service and the highly successful Liaison Librarian Program is in the vanguard of developing new roles for research libraries. The U of T Scarborough Library also leads through our Digital Scholarship Unit, a team that has forged partnerships with faculty, academic and administrative campus departments to collaborate on advances in digital scholarship and instruction.

The library offers an extensive reference and research service, where students and faculty can receive research assistance in person, by telephone, through email, and through the online Ask a Librarian chat service. Students and faculty can book an appointment with a liaison librarian to assist with course assignments, in both the development of the assignment (with faculty), or in finding resources to fulfill the assignment (for the student).

Scarborough holds a local collection of about 400,000 print items, journal subscriptions, sound recordings, videos and films, a leisure reading collection, special research and archival collections. Full access to the entire U of T Library system (the third-largest academic library system in North America, behind Harvard and Yale) includes over 12 million print volumes in 128 languages, close to 100,000 serial subscriptions, 660,000 electronic journals and over 1,000,000 electronic books. For materials unavailable through the University of Toronto’s network of libraries, we will use our national and international agreements to get the requested material for you. In addition to the library’s extensive collections, we offer access to over 200 networked computer stations, individual and group study space (including “Silent Study” rooms) and extensive reference and research support.

The U of T Scarborough Library is your physical and virtual portal to a vast array of information and expertise.
