Important Notice: Increased Demand for UTORMFA Hardware Tokens

Due to the recent Duo Mobile update announcement, we anticipate higher-than-usual demand for UTORMFA hardware tokens. As a result, fulfillment times may be longer than normal. We will keep all purchasers updated as orders are processed.

Before purchasing a token, please try the following:

Update your device’s operating system to the latest version it supports.
Update Duo Mobile to the newest version available in your app store.
If Duo Push no longer works but the app still opens, use the 6‑digit passcodes within the Duo Mobile app as a temporary method.
If your device cannot be updated and you cannot use passcodes, then consider purchasing a hardware token.

The Licensed Software Office distributes hardware tokens that have been selected for use with the UTORMFA service. This is an alternative for those who do not have the option to use a mobile device with the Duo Mobile app. For background and technical information about the service as well as how to self-enroll using a mobile device, please see Information Security's instructions on MFA (multi-factor authentication).

Hardware Token Availability

Faculty, staff and students on the St. George campus can pick up a UTORMFA hardware token at the Information Commons Help Desk at Robarts Library.

Students: The first token is free; additional tokens cost $38 each.
Faculty and staff: Tokens cost $38 each.

Tokens must be picked up in person as there is no shipping option. The hardware token can be assigned and enabled at pick up.

If you are a faculty member, staff or student located at University of Toronto Scarborough, please contact helpdesk@utsc.utoronto.ca for a token. If you are a faculty member, staff or student located at U of T Mississauga, please contact helpdesk.utm@utoronto.ca.

Faculty and staff should first consult local IT staff or a Business Officer to determine if a UTORMFA hardware token has already been purchased for use.

Note: The token does not plug into a USB port and has an internal battery. The expected life of the battery is 5 years. When the battery has been depleted a new token will need to be purchased.

How to purchase

Hardware tokens can be purchased via:

uSOURCE using U of T Departmental FIS accounts only. If you do not have an account set up please contact usource@utoronto.ca. Note: This option is not available for students.
software.utoronto.ca and using a credit card.
Single or multiple UTORMFA hardware tokens can be purchased and picked up from the Information Commons Help Desk on the first floor of Robarts Library. Please check their website for walk-in hours.

Please note: all hardware tokens must be picked up from the Help Desk in person during walk-in hours. There is no shipping option. After purchase, the Licensed Software Office will confirm with with the purchaser who is picking up the token. That person will need to present identification at the time of pickup.

How to turn on UTORMFA with a token: When you pick up your token at Help Desk at Robarts Library, it can be assigned at the time of pickup and a staff member will verify your identity to activate the token. You can also sign up for activation at a later date using this booking site.
