The UTSC Library is pleased to join the UTSC English Department in welcoming Janika Oza as our Writer-in-Residence for 2025.
Please join us for lunch on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025 in HW305 for a reading with the author and a discussion of her work and creative practice.
Janika Oza’s debut novel A History of Burning was a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award, a finalist for the 2024 Carol Shield’s Prize, and a New York Times Editor’s Choice. It was also named a best book of the year by The New York Times, The Globe & Mail and CBC books, among others. In 2022, her short story “Fish Stories” was a winner of the O. Henry Prize for Short Fiction.
Oza is joining UTSC this term as our annual “Writer-in-Residence” as part of the English Department’s efforts to connect the UTSC community with renowned authors through office hours, public talks, events and workshops. She is an experienced teacher of fiction and we’re very fortunate to have her join us this term to bring her writing talents and insights to our community.
