  • What: Ever been curious about how databases work? In this workshop we will cover the basics of understanding relational databases and how to request information from these databases using Structured Query Language (SQL).  

  • Why: If you have ever been curious about how eCommerce websites work, have an interest in large sets of data, or plan on doing research with large data outputs, you might want to familiarize yourself with SQL.  

  • Software: In this workshop, we will focus on a generalized format/syntax of SQL using emulators to better assist us in understanding how Database Managment Systems (DBMS) work. All the skills you learn in this workshop will be applicable to any DBMS. 

  • Who: This workshop is designed for individuals interested in understanding databases and database systems: Humanities, Business, or Sciences. An understanding of spreadsheets and datatypes would be helpful for this workshop. 

  • How: This is a 2 hour in-person workshop, consisting of a short lecture and then a series of demonstrations, which you can follow along with or just watch, interspersed with activities we will complete together and discuss. There are no breaks. 

  • Where: This workshop will be held in The BRIDGE Data Lab 

  • When: Friday, February 14, 3-5:00pm.
