In order to make best use of our breadth of services, we ask that library users follow the University of Toronto's recommended procedures for requesting accommodation on the basis of disability, as outlined below. As confidentiality is of utmost importance, this process ensures that we know only what services are needed and not what disability is held.
Students
Prior to contacting us for support, we strongly recommend that you first register with Student Accessibility Services (St. George campus), Accessibility Services (Mississauga campus), or AccessAbility Services (Scarborough campus).
Speaking with an accessibility advisor will ensure you receive the appropriate supports needed for all facets of student life, not just from the library. Once registered, your advisor will arrange to connect you with the library so that you may provide more details about the services you require.
After this initial referral, you are welcome to liaise with us directly and remain eligible for library accommodations for as long as you remain registered with your accessibility services office.
Faculty and staff
Faculty and staff may receive a referral to us from Human Resources and Equity's Health & Well-being Programs and Services division. Please review the Accommodation Guidelines for Employees with Disabilities for further detail.
Community members
Access to the University of Toronto Libraries for members of the public varies from library to library, however, we are committed to ensuring that community members also receive equitable access to the spaces, services, and collections they are eligible to use.
If you are a library user from the broader community, please contact us directly with any accommodation requests and they will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
