Digital Object Identifier (DOI)

Why is a DOI important?

DOIs (Data Object Identifiers) are a name (not a location) and they help make your research citable, including your data.

  • Typically a published paper will have a DOI and will be assigned by the publisher
  • You can also obtain a DOI for the data supporting a study - this is usually assigned by the repository
  • This allows for the impact of your data to be tracked
